If you have a Medicare Advantage or Part D plan, your plan mails a letter explaining what changes for 2027 — premiums, copays, covered drugs, and network.

  2. Early October

    2027 plans are published

New plan details for 2027 become available, so you can compare options before enrollment opens.

You can join, switch, or drop Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans.

  4. December 7, 2026

    New coverage starts

Any change you made during Annual Enrollment takes effect on January 1.

  6. January 1 – March 31, 2027

If you are in a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one more chance to switch to a different Medicare Advantage plan or go back to Original Medicare.

Why review your plan every year

Even if you liked your plan this year, it may not be the same plan in 2027. These are the changes we check for.

Your prescriptions

Plans change which drugs they cover and what tier they are on every year. A drug that was affordable this year might cost more next year.

Your doctors and hospitals

Provider networks change. We check that the doctors, specialists, and hospitals you rely on are still in network.

Premiums and copays

Monthly premiums, deductibles, and copays can all change. We compare your total expected cost, not just the premium.

Your pharmacy

Preferred pharmacies can change from year to year, which affects what you pay at the counter.

What you can change during Annual Enrollment

  • Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan
  • Switch from a Medicare Advantage plan back to Original Medicare
  • Change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another
  • Join, switch, or drop a Medicare Part D prescription drug plan

What to have ready for your review

  • Your red, white, and blue Medicare card
  • A list of your prescriptions, with doses
  • The names of your doctors and specialists
  • Your preferred pharmacy
  • Your Annual Notice of Change letter, if you received one

Medicare's Annual Enrollment Period runs from October 15, 2026 through December 7, 2026. Changes you make take effect on January 1, 2027.

No. If you do nothing, most people stay in their current plan for the next year. But plans change every year, so it is worth confirming your drugs, doctors, and costs still work before December 7.

No. There is no cost to you for our help. As a licensed broker, we are paid by the insurance carriers when you enroll.

Annual Enrollment applies to Medicare Advantage and Part D drug plans. Medigap plans work differently: you can apply to change at other times of the year, but you may have to answer health questions. We can walk you through your options.

Usually not. When you first become eligible for Medicare, you have your own Initial Enrollment Period around your 65th birthday. Give us a call and we will help you map out your dates.

Outside of Annual Enrollment, you generally can only change plans if you qualify for a special enrollment period, such as moving or losing other coverage. If you are in a Medicare Advantage plan, you also have one chance to switch between January 1 and March 31.
